    Why can’t I open the Langara Island Field Guide?

    MAKING A RESERVATION

    What are the main differences between Langara Fishing Lodge and Langara Island Lodge?

    Both of our lodges at Langara Island offer a truly first-class experience, with high quality boats and equipment, well-appointed accommodations, exceptional service and gourmet cuisine, but here are the key differences between the two:

    Langara Fishing Lodge:

    • A floating facility, ideal for those who want to enjoy a casual lodge atmosphere centred around the activity of the docks;
    • Both guided and unguided packages are offered, with upgraded console boats available for unguided guests;
    • Alcohol (beer or wine) is included with meals; drinks ordered before or after meals are charged to your room.

    Langara Island Lodge:

    • A land-based facility offering more spacious and luxurious accommodations, and situated high above the fishing grounds on a scenic bluff;
    • Only guided packages are promoted, although guests can choose to fish unguided in our standard boats;
    • All alcohol consumed at the lodge is included, except for some premium labels;
    • Packages are approximately $400 - $500 (Cdn) more per person than Langara Fishing Lodge.

    Ocean fishing packages are also available at Kumdis River Lodge – fishing along the Graham Island shoreline near Masset – at a lower price point than our lodges at Langara Island.

    What is NOT included in our all-inclusive packages?
    With few exceptions, such as lodge store items, the only additional expenses you will need to consider are:

    • hotel accommodations in Vancouver before and/or after your trip;
    • fishing license (can be obtained at check-in and charged to your lodge tab);
    • gratuities for lodge staff and/or guide.

    Do you have an age limit for children?

    At Langara Island, we generally recommend children be 13 or older, but this can vary depending on your child’s fishing or boating experience. When booking a trip with children 16 or under, we strongly recommend (and may insist) that you book a guided trip.

    Moosehead Lodge can offer a very enjoyable experience for families with younger children.

    PREPARING FOR YOUR TRIP

    Where does my trip begin and end?

    All trips to any of our lodges begin and end in Vancouver at the South Terminal of the Vancouver Airport. Unless notified otherwise, guests will check-in at the Langara counter, located opposite the Terminal restaurant, at the time stated on their trip itinerary.

    All guests should receive a trip itinerary several weeks prior to their trip, listing their check-in and flight times. If you haven’t received an itinerary or are unsure of your flight time, please contact our office.

    Can I schedule a flight home on the day we return to Vancouver?

    Barring unforeseen circumstances, guests should return to the South Terminal in Vancouver no later than 5pm. But flight delays do happen occasionally, so we strongly recommend that Langara guests book their flight home on the day after they return from the lodge.

    What identification do I need when entering Canada?
    Guests arriving from outside of Canada must have proper identification to clear Canada Customs. As of June 1, 2009, all travellers entering Canada must present a passport as identification. Individuals with a criminal record may have difficulty entering Canada.

    Further information can be found at the Canada Border Services Agency website , or at 1-800-461-9999 (within Canada) or 1-204-983-3500 (outside Canada).

    What clothing should I bring?
    Dress at all of our lodges is casual, so bring whatever you are comfortable wearing. Guests at Langara Island (and ocean fishing guests at Kumdis River Lodge) are supplied with 2-piece Mustang marine suits and rubber boots. Weather conditions can vary significantly during the day at any of our lodges, with temperatures ranging from 8 – 20+ Celsius (45 – 70+ F), so guests should bring clothing that can be worn in layers. A warm jacket, sweater, long underwear or sweatpants, warm socks, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bathing suit (for hot-tubs and steam room), are all recommended items.

    Please limit individual luggage to 25 pounds. Soft duffel bags are preferable. Where can I obtain a fishing license? Fishing licenses can be obtained when you check in with us at the start of your trip. The license fee will be added to your lodge tab.

    AT THE LODGE

    What communication services are available at the lodges?

    Cel phones: do not work at any of our lodges. Email/internet: our lodges do have internet services via satellite for lodge operations. We can make our lodge connections available to guests who need to check email, but access is limited. Guest phone calls: lodge phones are available for guest use. Long distance charges may apply for some calls.

    What forms of payment are accepted at the lodge?
    Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cash and cheques can be used for any charges at all of our lodges.

    Can I book a guide at the Lodge?
    Guests wanting to reserve a guide at either Langara Fishing Lodge or Langara Island Lodge should do so prior to their trip. Guides are subject to availability and, unless prearranged, we cannot guarantee a guide will be available if you request one at the lodge. When available, guides or experienced lodge staff can be hired at an hourly or full trip rate.

    How many hours can I spend on the water at Langara Island?
    With our close proximity to the fishing grounds and longer days up north, Langara guests can enjoy some of the longest fishing days of any lodge on the West Coast. Depending on the time of year, our fishing hours are between 5-6am and 8-9pm, allowing for up to 16 hours of fishing on each full day of your trip. On the first day of your trip, guests can enjoy 7-10 hours of fishing after arriving at the lodge. On the last day of your trip, guests will be able to fish for 3-5 hours prior to departing the lodge.
